My 13 year old son wrote this poem claiming it is personification. I told him that although I think it is a good poem, it is not personification. Does it fall into any catagory of poem? If so, what is it called?

I agree these are more like stated metaphors.

For personification, the season would have to feel or act like a person or animate being. For example "Winter grumbles in anger" or "Summer dances and laughs on the playground."
"Autumn sulks in despair" etc.

I would call it... not personification itself, but a type of personification. Maybe more like a metaphorical poem.
