yes, real time market software gives you live quotes and live charts which is essential for investing. If you are a beginner, open an account with a discount brokerage firm...for example scottrade. They give you free software and only charge you for trades.

Not necessarily. The problem is that real-time software still has a lag, which means all the big funds out there are still a step ahead of you (in an industry where half a second counts) because their software is better, basically. Your best bet is to buy shares in a mutual fund or two, unless you're looking to actively day trade (which is tough to start out as a beginner). Maybe try some mutual funds, get a feel for how the market works, and then consider day trading if you decide you want to get very serious about it. That's when you'll need some fancy software!

If by "investing" you mean "day trading", then real time market software would be helpful. However, successful investors invest for the long term, and that means that real time market software is completely unecessary.

That's not investing. That's gambling. Investing is a boring, very long-term thing. Get yourself some mutual funds and forget about them for years and years.

No, absolutely not. Real-time charting etc. is mainly only important for daytraders and occasionally other very short-term traders.
