Should they do it? After all, what do they have to lose? It`s not like the NHL is making money these days. If anything, i think it would grab alot of peoples attention. Sure couldnt do any worse than last years ratings.

Make the game take place after the season, like the NFL does? Does the NFL complain about travel costs too Hawaii? Build onto an existing stadium or build a new stadium? Alaska doesnt have a team! NO ****!!! Isnt there a site made for 10 yr olds? Is tuna chicken or fish?

I think it is an interesting idea, but ratings are not the problem. Logistics and costs are. The cost to go to Alaska would be phenomenal. Considering that the NHL doesn't make a lot of money from this game anyway, what justification do they have for going up there? How big is the best available arena? Would they make up the costs of flying so many people up there? It's an long and expensive flight. REALLY expensive. Most teams wouldn't want their players suffering from that much jetlag when they came back, either. It'll never happen.

I personally like the idea. I think it would be something great to witness, and it would be history making, without a doubt.

It would make the NHL millions in Sponsorship deals, and the Television deal would an enormous amount considering it would grab much attention from the States. The publicity would be great for the NHL.

However, there is something the NHL has to lose. Millions of dollars in Ticket sales. If they hold the game in Bell Centre in Montreal they can fit 22 000 in the Arena, whereas in Alaska there are no large arena's and they would have to play outdoors for a capacity of 2000 people maximum. Thats approx. a loss of 1100% in ticket sales.

Nonetheless, from a hockey fan's standpoint, it would be amazing to see it happen.

This isn't an answer to your question, but in response to rich b... Dallas WAS NOT an bad idea. It was a great event, with a great turn out. Everyone here really enjoyed the game. If you want to blame it on anything blame it on the time spot. I'll agree that it shouldn't have been during the week, but don't bash Dallas. We've got great fans here, and I'm one of them. The All-Star may not have been a success in TV ratings, but it certainly was down here. It's about time the NHL recognized Dallas as a hockey city!

And I say why not to an All-Star game in Alaska.. Worth a shot.

Sure. The NBA blows out their all star event in Vegas and the NHL goes to Alaska. This actually sounds like something the league would consider, but only if it's scheduled for 7pm on a Tuesday night...

No way. Alaska doesn't have the population to warrant an All-Star game. No one would want to travel there to see the game, so it would only be locals going to it. Besides, Alaska doesn't even have an NHL team.

The Eastern Teams are sure to vote against it based on the travel. Doesn't matter if it is good or bad for the league, they only consider travel issues.

No,they should not do it.What facility will they use to host it?
I agree that it should be held in a place where it will be appreciated, but i dont think Anchorage,Fairbanks,or Juneau would be ideal.
Dallas was a bad idea and the time slot was a worse idea.
At a time when the NHL is trying its best to promote itself, the top dogs decide to send an all-star hockey game to a fair-weather NHL fan based TEXAS city on a weekday... WTF?
