I am a social smoker and drinker. I have people who I have known a long time who are as well. I work at a place where I don't smoke and don't always feel like they accept me for me. I am advancing in my career so sometimes I think that maybe they just want me to evolve professionally. I don't know what to do. I feel torn between two worlds.

Your question is very confusing. What is your problem? Is it that you smoke and drink, but the people you work with don't? Are you saying that where you work, everyone else smokes and you don't, so you think your co-workers don't like you for that? I am confused. Really, if you do your job correctly, are on the road to advancement, what is your problem? I smoke and sometimes drink, but I never mixed the two... the "job" stays at the job, and my personal life is just that - PERSONAL. Worked for me. Remember, at the job, your not there to win a personality contest, your there to do a job. Take care of your own "***" at work, and what you do privately is private. Remember, if you don't work,make a living,get a paycheck, you don't have a "social life" and so you won't have to worry about smoking or drinking, you won't be able to afford to. True friends are the ones who stick around when th s*** hits the fan. If a person is judging you for being a smoker or drinker then they are not your true friend. If they are showing a true concern for your health and well being then I would say that they care about you.

To me the truest friends are the ones who stick with you through thick and thin. True friends rush in when everone elese rushes out. One of the best ways to find out more about how to be a true friend is to loook at examples in the Bible about true friends. The story of Johnathan and David is one of the best. What does your heart say? If you feel that you want to be a smoker and drinker, be one. The other people can kiss ur @$$!!!! But, if you feel like smoking and drinking is immature, then be profetional! Its ur desicion!

i'm sure u know that smoking isnt good, hope u quit soon. anyways, its just life. no matter wat u do or how u try u will always get trap between 2 answers, there is always a yes and a no, a right and a wrong, wat u need do is test these ppl. when u do this u will be able 2 know who is with u and who is not or u can just trust them, but remember that in watever u do, u should always trust GOD and consult him first(pray). Actually I just found out who my real friends were Friday. Its shocking how the people who you think have your back so to speak will sell you out in a hot second. So now I choose to stick to my self. I got arrested today and im probably going to end up going to jail because they sold me out.

If they don't accept you they are not your friends. However, that doesn't mean that you cannot act friendly toward them as they should toward you in a work environment. People have different likes and dislikes and different lifestyles. It's life.

If you went out and partied with you're social worker friends I bet some of them would smoke when they drank also.

real friends will always accept you for who you are without judgement they are not concerned with changing you and will always support decisions you make even if they dont agree with you
