I'm trying to watch my weight, but am obligated to attend dinner at a fine Italian restaurant tonight. Which foods would be healthier, lower-calorie choices? I've heard that alfredos and other cream sauces are a no-no...

Just order a salad along with dinner. Use oil and vinegar (always a must at italian restaurants). That way you can eat your salad and fill up. Don't forget to drink WATER. A glass of red wine is alright ( just one!) and it's great on digestion. But you can order grilled chicken or fish with vegis.

It's not THAT hard. I lived in Sicily for 4 years and ate all kinds of WONDERFUL food. But I just didn't eat a lot of it. That's the key to changing your eating habits. It's not so much what, but how much. If you had pasta one time, no biggie. Just eat a single portion (like 1/3 of what they'll probably serve you) and have your salad and water. You'll do fine :)

Pasta doesn't make you fat...it's the heavy sauces that make you gain weight. Maybe order pasta with grilled veggies or with a simple tomato sauce, you can also eat roasted chicken or rabbit and a tossed salad, fish is a healthy-choice as well.

I don't agree with the previous poster. Cream sauces are far worse than any pasta, except possibly ravioli. Stick to basic pastas with tomato sauces, such as marinara. If you don't want to do pasta, then go for something with lots of vegetables. Don't add cheese!

cream sauces are fine, its the pasta that you need to worry about. I would opt to get a dish such as chicken parm and ask if you can substitute the pasta for something else. I'm not saying don't eat pasta ever but do enjoy them in moderately.

Yeah, stay away from the pastas and cream sauces. Your best bet is to stick to salads.

I'd say ask for a fish dish with a (small) side of pasta, with maybe a salad or broccoli rabe.

Look for fish or chicken breasts. Italian food can be really healthy, if you look for something with lots of veggies and whole ingredients.
