Okay, I'm doing this project for one of classes at school where we have to pick a topic and study over it. My group chose the media. In your opinion do you think that the media affects a way a person thinks. You know like how they should look, what they should wear, what friends you should have. Stuff like that, do you think media could do that much to a person?

Yes, I do if you are asking my opinion. The media is all around us, in magazines, on tv, on billboards, everywhere. It dictates the "rules" when it comes to fashion, popular behavior, etc. Some people are more vulnerable than others when it comes to the influence of the media. They may have a low self esteem and think that following the media will make them more popular or something like that. Some people turn the other way, but I don't think you could find anyone that hasn't based at least one of their behaviors on the media.

I think the media definitely affects the way people think.
For example, lets take news broadcasts. The people at the news stations pick and choose whichever stories they want to show that day... for example, they could choose the headline "10 Soldiers Killed in Iraq Today" or they could choose "Study shows Iraqi Children are Becoming Better Educated". If they chose the first choice, the public would say "Man, the war is going terrible in Iraq". But if they chose the second one, people would say "Wow, maybe Iraq wasn't such a bad idea."
Now, it's a totally different thing if there are no good stories to tell about Iraq.... but that's another topic entirely.

in this present generation, MEDIA is everything. at a very young age children were introduced to media and that is brought until they grow up. media is much of an influence and sometimes more than the influence of parents. we should admit it that sometimes media dictates the people on their lifestyle. media is good but wrong interpretation of what it shows may be bad. media could do much to a person because what is in media would make people think that it is what is "in". so people try to follow it. and everyone changes to that. media can change lives, that's all i know.

Well, I think maybe the media could do that. The media definitely persuades someone on what they buy. I guess it could make someone think about the type of friends they have or how they should act in school. Like with T.V. shows, someone might see the way the characters act, and whether or not they are cool or popular, so they might try to act the same way in hopes of becoming cool or popular.

Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

Media over the years changed from news reporting to sensationalizing everything and blowing it out of proportion. Fashion has always been dictated by the designers, however now with all the computer enhanced pictures, it influences young people who think the stars actually look like that and try to imitate them right down to their anorexic proportions. It influences the hair styles, the clothes which are usually too expensive for teens.
Other magazines like Cosmopolitan have come out with a teen issue with sexual content that should not be bought by teens.
Therefore in my opinion it influences the age the teens are trying sex etc. I don't think they dictate what kind of friends you should have, however they tell adults if you want to be a millionaire, you need to live in their particular subdivision and surround yourself with them. Which in turn makes some people buy houses they cannot afford and gets them into bankruptcy.

YES! just look at the whole anorexic model thing. Girls look at Kate Moss and Nicole Richie and say "wow! i want to look like that!" their mind set is that those girls get all the guys so if i look like that and i dont eat and i do drugs ill have guys all over me too. It actually amazes me how much young teens and even young adults pay attention to the media. Because of all the drinking, drugs, and sex that are in the tabloids , when most people see it they dont think twice about it!
sorry that was my commercial!! haha

Yes, i think media is responsible, if not completely in part, for introducing the term "cool" to our schools and so many terms as well. Its also responsible for spreading it around like wild fire in all communities even around the world. For example, you see other cultures starting to change the way they dress, talk or even behave.

Now you see teenagers wearing baggy pants all over the world instead of wearing their traditional clothes :D
