FIELDER'S CHOICE is the act of a fielder who handles a fair grounder and, instead of throwing to first base to put out the batter-runner, throws to another base in an attempt to put out a preceding runner. The term is also used by scorers (a) to account for the advance of the batter-runner who takes one or more extra bases when the fielder who handles his safe hit attempts to put out a preceding runner; (b) to account for the advance of a runner (other than by stolen base or error) while a fielder is attempting to put out another runner; and (c) to account for the advance of a runner made solely because of the defensive team’s indifference (undefended steal)

Say there is a runner on first and the batter hits a ground ball. Then the fielder throws it to second and gets the force out because it was easier. It was the fielder's CHOICE to throw it to second rather than first so the runner would have been out if he threw it to first. The result is the batter's Batting average is decreased.

A FC (Fielder's Choice) is when there is a man on first base and the batter hits the ball. The ball goes to a infielder/catcher/pitcher while the batter is running the 1st and the man on 1st is running to second. The fielder with the ball can CHOOSE (hence Fielders CHOICE) to either throw it to second and get that guy out or to first and get the batter out.

(FC) is Fielder's Choice, the most common scenario is when there is runner in 1B and the batter hits a ground ball and the fielder who has the ball gets to pick if he wants to take the runner running to 2B out or the runner runnig to 1B out, if the fielder decides to take the runner on 2B out and the runner on 1B is safe than that counts as a FC for the hitter and not a Hit.

When the fielders choose to get a base runner out allowing the batter to get to first base safely.

It's when a batter reaches safely, not by a hit or via an error, but when a fielder attempts (sucessfully or not) to get another baserunner out instead of the batter.

Hope that helps.

With one or more runners on base there is always an obvious out, but this time the fielder did not choose it.

For example: runner on first. batter grounds to 2nd, 2nd baseman steps on 2nd and attempts to get the batter on his way to 1st, but the batter was safe. So although he got on he isn't credited with a base hit because the fielder "chose" to get the runner going to 2nd instead of going after the batter.
