A league is 3 nautical miles and a nautical mile is around 1.15 regular miles, used here in the states. It was used in sea stories like 20,000 leagues under the sea. Now in Europe on land, a league expressed the distance a person or horse could walk in an hour and that is usually 3 miles. Fantasy books spark the imagination, so keep on reading.

There is no established distance. I think the length changed over time depending who the Kings or national leaders were at the time.

According to Websters it varies from 2.4 to 4.6 miles. I would just pick something in the middle to get a grasp of the distances.
