Shouldn't we respect the heritage of the National Anthem and recite or sing it as it was written? I understand that we are a melting pot of cultures etc., but our National Anthem is sacred to us as American's, It is Old Glory, The Red, White, and Blue. Does the National Anthem still have the same meaning, or carry the same emotion in a different language?

I didn't ask to sound ignorant. I am sure that everyone wants their "Own Version" but isn't that the problem... once you have vesion upon version, doesn't the original loose it's meaning. Doesn't America loose America with all the versions?

There's no reason why it shouldnt be. But as long as Americans continue to sing it in english (which they will) then i dont see a problem with it.

I'm still waiting for the "original" Algonquin, Iroquis, Cherokee, etc, versions, myself. ;)
French and English versions of "O Canada" hasn't hurt anyone, as far as I'm aware.
There are parts of the US that have been Spanish-speaking for more than 400 years. Shouldn't they have their own version? Is it really a bad thing for all Americans to want to have a version of their own?
I seriously doubt the English version is in any way endangered or diminished.
Let's move on to a less silly debate.

It should be sung with the same accent the people who wrote it had. That would exclude you from ever singing it.
That song and the princibles it stands for are princibles that are true for the entire human race. What are you going to say when its sung on mars. How about in 2000 years. Your attitude will make sure its forgotten.

If they want "their own version" of OUR anthem, they can go back to their third world sh*tholes and sing it all they want in their language. Yeah, the Mexicans are here shouting "viva la raza" and telling us how proud they are to be Mexicans and they love their country. They wave their Mexican flags. They speak Spanish. And they do it all on AMERICAN soil. Illegally.

As a former Marine, I think the national Anthem should be sang in english only! No offense to immigrants, but this is our country, and eventhough we are willing to share it, it doesn't mean you shouldn't learn to speak english.
