Lake Tahoe is located at the border between California and Nevada. Specifically, it is the southwestern corner of Nevada. California owns most of Lake Tahoe.
The coordinates of 39º north latitude and 120º west longitude pass through Lake Tahoe. Carson City (Nevada's capital city) is only seven miles east of Lake Tahoe. Reno, Nevada is 21 miles north of Lake Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe is a total of 23 miles north-south and 12 miles east-west.
