It sounds like you are a victim of a browser hijacking. This is a form of spyware where the browser's homepage and/or default search engine is changed without the consent of the user. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unscruplous people who use spyware to make money. Usually, they are ad firms which get a commission each time they are able to attract an Internet user to visit the client's website.
Unlike antivirus programs, it is recommended to use more than one anti spyware program - as long as you only scan one at a time. Lavasoft's Ad Aware is decent. You can also install Spybot Search & Destroy and Microsoft's Windows Defender. The download site is http://www.filehippo.com/software/antispyware/
Both programs are free to use; however, you have to go through Microsoft WGA program before installing it. This is their anti piracy program to check to see if your copy of Windows XP is genuine.
Install both programs and update them. Run a scan with Spybot first and then Windows Defender. Panda Antivirus program also provides excellent spyware protection but PC World Magazine discovered that its one weakness is poor browser setting protection. It also failed to reverse the browser changes.

If you mean your homepage is being hijacked you need to run a spyware and adware removal tool, (spybot and adaware are both good)
You may have to edit different settings and manually delete folders and files dependant on what the problem is.
If however its popups, run the spy and ad ware tools, remove any newly added downloaded software. and as above, turn on a popup blocker

You've got adware, a sort of non-malicious virus which doesn't necessarily damage your computer but generates annoying pop-ups, changes your home page and slows your computer down. Get a spyware remover.

You have some sort of adware program sitting on your PC.
I recommend downloading AVG from the website below, their free software should be able to scan and find the offending article and remove it.
Microsoft have recently released software for adware etc. for Windows XP - go to their website for more information - which might also be able to help...

(1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans in safe mode
(2) Do an online virus scan to check if you still have any other viruses in your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .

Your home page is being hijacked by these sites. Get yourself some better security software that prevents this ie Norton.
