According to this article, democracy, civil society and violence are related. Personally, I think it's intuitively true because most of the violence we see in the world today are either caused by the democracies or are reactions to their policies. Read the article. What do you think?

Democracy is not the problem it is organized religion. not to seem like a heretic( i could really careless if you think that but i really don't want the grief) but the response to democracy often comes from religious fanatics. `through out the history of time there has been violence and disapproval of every major political system but that doesn't mean it was the cause. like i said before it is religious fanatics who see America as this giant Christian juggernaut that seeks to impose that on the rest of the world. Remember G.W. called the war in Iraq "A crusade". as incompetent of a president he is, his views are what a lot of the world sees as the sentiments of our country. this isn't to say democrats are any better, the Christian agenda in our country has infected every politician that has ever claimed s/he has "great hometown Morals". I'm not trying to bash Christianity here but the way it is presented within the structure of our political system is sickening. an Islamic country might see this and think well they think only Christians can be morally right. as a Muslim i would be pretty upset.
aside from the U.S. the majority of the violence not only in recent year but in the history of the world has been religiously driven. the holy crusades in the middle ages were waged for centuries because Christians thought they were right in taking Islamic land. likewise Turkish forces crushed Grecian armies for the same reason.
Not until global tolerance is achieved violence will exist and democracy has become a convenient scapegoat due to the American Juggernaut. it is merely the system behind a country sticking its nose in another of countless religious civil wars

To say democracy and violence are connected would be ignorant in my view because I believe everything in human nature is connected with violence. Democracy is not the only cause of violence in the world. People kill each other all the time for no apperent reason. People die everyday trying to defend their values so I think the real truth here is that violence is connected with humanities desire to protect their values.

Yes democracy and violence are related. The more democratic your country the less violence, almost as a rule. Case in point two democratic countries have never started a war with one another.
