I was in my garden lastnight and I swear I saw a gnome eating my begonias, what do I do?

I had a similar problem once... here's what I did...

I went to the local car rental agency and rented a medium sized pickup truck. I drove home very carefully. Once I got to my house, I sat in the truck in the dark section of the street with the truck running but the lights off.. When the gnomes came out, I fired up the truck and mounted the curb at high speed... it took about three passes across my lawn to get them all but I was successful. I ran the wee buggers down and tossed them in the back. I took the truck to the u-spray-it carwash and cleaned her up. I dumped the squished gnomes in the Walmart trash box out back and returned the truck. Surprisingly, not one cop ever showed up... ever... I got away with it...

Gnomes will eat begonias in a pinch, but they much prefer marigolds. Plant a bed of those and your begonias will remain unharmed. The reason you want to keep Gnomes around is that they scare off moles.

Well, gnomes don't eat begonias. Like us, they prefer fresh dandelions and other greens to make salads with. Perhaps your gnome was just collecting some to make a fresh boquet. Always try to be courteous to any gnomes you come across, they can be very helpful and life long friends. Share and share alike when it comes to the gardening. For additional information, I highly highly recommend "Gnomes" by Wil Huygen. It's an invaluable reference tool.

Leave food by your hearth. If it's gone in the morning, what you have is a Brownie, not a gnome. If that's the case you now have a protector of the whole house!

Stay off the sauce in the evening before going into the garden at night.
