My two granddaugters loved the "Lift the Flap" books by Karen Katz, though they aren't for a newborn, maybe one year and up. Any books by Sandra Boynton are great, too!

Oh my gosh, you'll love this book. "God Gave Us You" by Lisa Tawn Bergren. I got it at Walmart. I get misty eyed every time I read it.
