I currently have a 2000 olds. alero. Up until recently it has been a pretty descent car. Last month I had it in to get some things fixed and it cost $400+. Just the other day it started acting weird with the check engine light flashing. I had to take it into the shop again and the total was $870! Now that it actually works...I'm just afraid that it's going to cause more problems. Is it time to get a new car? Or should the worst of it be over? What do you think?

Depending on the mileage and condition, I would likely keep it. If these repairs continue, then look for another car. However, if this is all for the next 6 months, you still have paid much less than a car payment would have been. If you have had the car since new, and have kept up with the proper maintenance, then you know the car is in good condition. Keep it, and save yourself some money.

Get A New Car If You Still Have To Pay For Repairs That Cost That Much. Because You Can Use That Money On Monthly Payment For A Newer Car.

Well the shop probably ripped you off, it probably cost them $25 to fix your car..... all cars need maintenance..... parts go bad every now and then. Your car is still pretty new.... a 2000.... I would keep it. But that is your decision. Next time the check engine light comes on goto your local auto store and see what you need, and put the parts on yourself.... you will save hundreds....
