Tuned Port Injection: Injectors are placed in each individual cylinder's intake port giving the engine much better response and economy. GM's port injection is called Tuned Port Injection. The system uses tuned runners to enhance the torque output within a certain RPM range, usually between 1500 and 3500 RPM. Now, the confusion starts. GM produced two major versions of Tuned Port Injection. The systems from 1985 to 1989 used what's called a MAF sensor. This device actually measures the air entering the engine. In 1990 to 1993, the systems began using a MAP sensor. This sensor measures engine vacuum and indirectly calculates the amount of air entering the engine. Some people like MAF systems and some like MAP. I prefer MAP systems for the following reasons. I copied part of this from a site listed below, it continues on. Found the original answer on GM.

That stands for Tunned Port Injection. The intake will have large tubes coming down to the heads. It should be on late 80's and very early 90's V-8 camaros and Corvettes I believe it was 1993 when they changed to LT1 engine.
