Because if something is sold in multiple sizes, the only way to know which is the better deal is by using a unit price.

Think of it like fractions. You can't really compare them without a common denominator, right? That's what a unit price is: a common denominator for shopping.

Depends on what you mean by "aware". I mean if it's all printed on the label then the information is a no brainer right? Problem comes when one product has the unit price per pound and another has it per kg! One has it per litre and one has it per 100ml. That is the most annoying thing for me, and manufacturers should be aware that I hate it!!!!

It makes it easier to compare similar things. It's like comparing one unit of Chewy brand bars to one unit of the generic brand, or whatever.
