Should people be charged when they are rescued by gov't employees when they hike into dangerous areas or go sailing in bad weather. I wonder what it costs to fly search and rescue missions. Maybe they would reconsider going out in better weather conditions.

No, I absolutely don't think so. Those services are already paid for by taxpayers and are like the insurance policy the government provides for all of us by paying our taxes. It's a matter of social welfare that all Americans should feel proud to support. While some of these incidents do occur because the participants aren't as careful as they should be, many more occur because of an extreme and unusual condition, like avalanches or forest fires.

yes they should be finned $500 for reckless endangerment of an animal.
