A big thing that's been working for me lately is working on your stroke technique. If your freestyle stroke is off of anything else a proper arm movement though the water could be slowing you down.

For freestyle you really want to keep your elbows high at least during practice and keep your breath count to at most 3 (although I myself always go with 2, I have medical reasons though). You also want to make sure your head is pointing straight down at the ground as well and you have a good streamline push off off of your starts and flip turns. These in turn will let you do more laps and do them faster leading to more endurance.

There are similar drills you can do for other strokes but since freestyle is the most common stroke of them all it's just normal to refer to it when giving advice.

You don't need to run to gain endurance, swimming is the king there anyways. Speed and endurance are going to normally be worked on separately.

Try swimming more 500s and less 50s when training endurance.

For the speed portion swim 50s on a slow repeat time, but really haul when the clock hits the go time

You need to swim as much as possible with your available time.
To gain endurance you need to do free style abt 3 km / day.
If can do it in medly order.
