The answer of course is obvious. The United States wants the ultimate power and the ultimate security. Any time, any nation, deals with the U.S. it's an unspoken threat that they could ultimately use the nuclear arsenal. The U.S. has rationalized this by being the "world's policeman", this will probably continue to work as long as the U.S. is seen by most of the world as the "good guy". However, if the current trend continues, more and more nations will feel the need to acquire nuclear weapons to defend themselves against the perceived threat of the U.S.

Nothing gives us the right. The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is only (debatably) binding on member states. As Israel and North Korea have demonstrated, other countries can have WMDs if they develop the technology.
The economic and political ramifications of bucking the US and it's allies can be significant, and of course, there's always the possibility that we'll bomb anyone who crosses us, but other than that, there's no reason anyone who wants nuclear weapons can't go ahead and get them.

The superpowers a long time ago determined that nuclear based weapons are a bain to human society and began phased removal of these weapons. However the technology exists and madmen will always try to secure the most terrible weapons, so we have to in the name of self-preservation hold an arsenal of the weapons. Iran and North Korea are lead by these kind of madmen and we cannot trust that their intended purpose for these weapons is merely self-preservation

There is a theory that the best way to preserve peace in any area is to preserve the balance of power.
Just think of it this way. If Iran get nuclear weapons and invades another country. Do you got to war with Iran? Or are you afraid that they might use it?
Nuclear weapons should only be in the hands of countries that have proven that they will only use them in a defensive situation. The U.S. has not use them in Korea, Vietnam, or Iraq.

you say they "can" have, why "can" they? because they already have. They've got them already from a time when the worlds countries weren't so close, that time has passed, the world we live in is the world of nations such as America, Britain, France.. That is what we know, it is the norm, its history, and the powers involved want to keep it that way, and so it becomes a very big and very complicated game of chess. But no one is right and no one is wrong, it just is, and we all must try not too destroy this world for power.

i think because if everyone thinks america is so great and all-powerful, we have control. especially because everyone turns to us when they have problems. Just because we said they cant have them doesnt mean they are gunna get rid of the weapons. And its not just the US who doesnt want N.Korea (for example) to have them.

Using your logic, I guess it would have been OK if Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan had nuclear weapons too.
