Today I bought new ballet slippers and I don't know how to sew on the elastic!! The sales associate told me where to sew the elastic and I marked it on my slippers, but I don't know how to sew it on! ( I do know how to sew though) Like, how do you know how much elastic to cut off before you sew it on, and do you sew it on through the leather or through the lining? I need help! The only reason that I don't know how to sew on the elastic is that my first pair of slippers came with the elastic sew on already. So if you could help me it would be much appreciated! Thank you!!!!
--I have Bloch slippers if that helps any--

hi there- i have made the mistake of sewing the elastic too tightly - and had to redo it. so, before you do anything, take a look at your old slippers, your new ones should be sewn in the exact same way as the old ones. so my advice is: put on the shoe without elastic, tighten it at the top then take the uncut elastic piece, line it up with the mark that the sales lady marked (make sure to give that end a TINY little more elastic then you need)safety pin it to the leather underneath the lining then pull elastic to the other side of the shoe. FLEX your foot then mark on the elastic where you will sew the elastic to the shoe with a pen (still make sure you give yourself a TINY bit more space on the end of that elastic before you cut it. After you marked the elastic cut it, unpin the other side and you are ready
to sew. Make sure you DO NO sew in the lining part (the string that you use to tighten and tie into a bow at the top will not work) but DO sew directly into the leather.. I always sewed mine at an angle-maybe 30 degrees from straight up and down so it look more normal. Hope that helps.

Hi there I used to take dance and when I sewed my elastic on, I would usually leave about 1/2 inch into the shoe. Put the slipper on your foot and pin the elastic on where it feels comfortable, it usually is put on at an angle. Also, I used to sew it right along the seam where the lining and leather came together. Hope this helps!

Hi! I am an expierienced dancer... are you dealing with pointe shoes or ballet slippers?
for regular ballet slippers, put on the shoe. put the elastic across it and measure how much you need and sew it on right about where the top of your arch is. Don't sew through the lining, sew below it.Hope this helps and have a good time dancing!contact me if you need anything!
