I was on birth control to regulate my periods but I went off about 5 months ago to get pregnant, I have had 2 normal periods and the rest have been 45-55 day cycles. So the pill did not work at all to regulate my periods

When I first went on the pill at 24 and then had to get off for a time due to symptoms that I thought was caused by the use of the pill I found that my periods were pretty regular. About two years later I started having symptoms that could have led to my period being irregular because it turned out I had a hormone imbalance. So I had to go back on the pill and it helped my periods be more regular.

My period went back to being irregular and the cramping was also more intense. This is probably because the pill shuts down your body's hormone production. When you stop taking it, your natural cycle starts back up. Maybe you'll be luckier though?

Also, I've never heard of the pill staying in your body up to a year. Nothing takes that long to get out of your system, not even psychological medication. When it comes to preventing pregnancy, the pill isn't effective after 2 or 3 days of non-use: which is why taking them every day is very important!

I got on the pill to regulate my periods because of a fibroid. After several years on the pill, my periods went from 12 days to 3. When I went off the pill, eventually my periods went back to normal. Heavy and long lasting. It took about 6 months. I couldn't take it so I went back on the pill.

Depending on how long you were on the pill, and at what age, usually the pill helps to regulate your periods, and even after you stop taking them, it's usually a year before they are completely out of your system. So you should be regular.
