Most people here are lying. That or they're going by fraudulent results given out by online tests like Tickle or Testcafe and others. Those results are wholeheartedly inaccurate and inflate your score for the sake of your ego.
The average score, based on normational data taken from white, english speaking individuals, is 100 by definition.
A score of 131 qualifies you for mensa, or puts you above 98% of the population.
A score of 150 puts you above 99.96% of the population, and is the highest possible score on many IQ tests.
No professionally administered IQ tests can give an accurate score beyond 165, or the 99.999th percentile.
I see some people here have claimed to have an IQ over 170...and on what test? What standard deviation? Knowing the IQ of an individual is useless, but I will tell you IQs over 170 are ridiculously rare; 1 in a million. A mere 1 in 21,000,000 individuals score a 180. 180 would be about 44/48 on this test: http://www.eskimo.com/~miyaguch/titan.html , and I'm willing to bet a substantial amount of money I could count on one hand the scores of most people claiming ridiculous scores here ;)

According to Mensa the IQ of 148 puts you in the top 2% of the population!1 in every 50 people are elligible to join Mensa! I'm not myself but do have the rating to be! I'm a puzzle addict and most IQ tests are nothing more than puzzles. Depending on the tests given my reading can vary by +-20! At 11 though my rating was pretty average! In those days I didn't like puzzles much and my knowledge of English was pretty poor! I don't think it matters what IQ you have as long as you use what you have wisely. Sometimes wish I had pushed myself more at school!

That depends on the test. Culturally corrected tests in most cass yield a 175 as "genius". The more interesting question is "what is genius?"
Culturally correction was necessary. As recently as the 1970's one IQ test for children showed an outline of a caucasion face and an outline of a black face. The "IQ" quesiton was "Which face is prettier?".. Guess what. All the black kids got that one wrong.
Was Beethoven, who never mastered mulitplication tables, a genius or not? Interesting to think that Beethoven probably couldn't have gotten into music school using todays criteria.
Bottom line, don't get too bogged down with the IQ gambit. It only has value for pidgeon-holeing people.

Every time I take one the result is always different. I don't think the online ones are too bad bud I don't know how accurate they are. I have had hugely different results, from 120 to 150 so I don't really trust IQ tests as a measure of intelligence and emotional intelligence is even harder to measure so this is quite a difficult topic really!

In theory average IQ is around 100 via the bell curve, ie most people have 100, and few have a top number or a very low number. I don't want to know my IQ, I was tested before they bothered to employ me but I doubt our boss sat the test (too busy). Of course I wasn't told the number, it could be any number basically, I would love to be sharp and un readable but when it comes to intelligence most people are defensive about the subject.

!48- this was the score that came out out of me when we were tested by the univ. psychometrician. I sometimes don't believe in it because I am not very bright in some mathematics-geometry for sure. I also had a perfect score in the aptitude test I took when i was applying for a job covering the whole province of my country (well-known tel.co.)- the testing managers couldn't believe it because no one ever had done it before.
It is just a test but I don't know if it correlates to achievements in one's life. It doesn't for me, one thing is for sure under circumstances. All the results could have been a matter of fluke.

The letters stand for Intelligence Quotient purporting to be a measure of how intelligent you are. This is calculated by a total of the scores achieved in answering a series of standardised tests which require the application of logic, perception, and vocabulary skills amongst others. IQ tests have been the subject of criticism over the years since their inception because of their inability to present questions which are not in some way biased by the social, educational and ethnic background of the compiler. The safest way to regard them is not as measures of intellligence but of the ability to do IQ tests. Mick

Top 5%. But Mensa only accepts the top 2%, so I feel a bit on the dumb side of smart. Helps to keep me humble.
For a long time I thought I was just average, until I slowly came to realize that there were a lot of "stupid(er)" people all around me. They kept on saying things like "What, do you think your smart or something?" I've finally figured out I am!
