Tivo/HBO trouble?

We have our Dual tuner tivo hooked up trough our cable modem, and we have cable service for all the chanels they provide including HBO, music stations, on demand movies and such. We got the tivo a couple of weeks ago and since we hooked it up we have not been able to watch or record any of those Premium channels. I am a HUGE Big Love and Saprano's fan. Its most of the reason we got the Tivo. I have done all that I can to fix the problem. So please give me some suggestions. Thank you.

Your tivo cannot descramble premium channels. Your cable box needs to do that. You could connect the cable box output to an input on the tivo, set a manual timer to go off at the time Big Love is on, have your cable box tune to the channel at the same time, and then have tivo tune to that input and record it.

For premium channels, you usually need to connect the cable from the wall outlet to the cable box (the one showing channel numbers in its front panel, not the cable modem). You want to verify that you can watch the premium channels without connecting the tivo first by setting up this connection:

Wall outlet --> cable box --> TV

If you can watch HBO this way, then try connecting your tivo between the output of the cable box and the TV like this:

Wall outlet --> cable box --> Tivo --> TV

Then you can set up tivo to enable the HBO channels by going to "Messages and Settings" menu -> Channel List -> Select the HBO channels.

A cable "modem" is used for hooking up to the computer for Internet access and it usually cannot decrypt premium channels. Hope this helps!

What model TIVO do you have?

If you have digital TV and a series 3 TIVO you may need Cable Cards to see premium channels.
