I want to dance in college and most schools ive seen that have dance programs and majors say on the website that you have to try out to take the classes. Does anyone know how difficult it is to be accepted into dance programs in places such as ucsb or csulb? also, are there anyother good colleges with good dance programs? Thanks!

Check out one of my recent answers that addresses the question of good dance colleges in the U.S.

In terms of how difficult the auditions are to get accepted into the dance programs at ucsb or csulb, I don't have first-hand knowledge of those programs, but I just heard some good things about csulb from someone who just auditioned there, so I'm going to generalize. Most college dance auditions consist of a ballet class and a modern class that are at the intermediate level. If you've been taking dance classes, you should have an idea of what that would be. Equal ability in both styles of dance is rarely expected.

The list I gave in my other answer includes some of the top dance programs. Those top programs mostly want to see advanced skills in ballet, but will also include a modern portion in the audition. Sometimes programs will also ask to see a 2-3 minute solo in any style.

There are some college programs that don't ask for an audition, but those tend to only offer a minor in dance.

I hope that helps.
