Mazda Miata Thermostat?

What is that little wire Above My thermostat on my miata the wire broke off and have no idea what its for my tempature gage still works so cant be that.....1993 miata

it should be a sensor that controls the fan but you say your temp gage has not fluxed? that's odd best bet is to buy a book on your car they Can be obtained anywhere and only cost about 20 bucks its cheap for alot of correct knowledge
