What, apart from sweets can I use to help take my mind off things.
Ps. I work in catering, food all around me all day - 8 hours!

Cant stand chewing gum, it gives me a jaw ache which leads to headache and gets caught in fillings and not a real sweet eater! sigh!

Cut your self some celery and carrots up - keep in the fridge.

A glass of water is wonderful or some sort of cold drink in the fridge.

Take a nice deep breath of fresh air, I got the nicotine rush when I wore the patches when I did this!

Above all, make up your mind that that damned which piece of paper, with c**p in it, is history, you are now in charge!

Treat yourself to something nice with the money you save as a reward.

Once you are a smoker you are always a smoker, bit like being a alcoholic, 2O years up the road, I still occasionally would ENJOY a cigarette, I dare not of course, because I would be smoking 4O a day with no problems.

But I don't, cos it stinks, makes you smell like a dirty ashtray, it cost you a fortune, and cancer has no preferences, don't think it cant happen to you, because it jolly well can.

Be strong, make up your mind that you are IN CHARGE and you are a NON SMOKER from now on. Today is the first day of the rest of your life!

Good luck!

The thing is, you're still feeding yourself with the nicotine when you use the patches. The only thing you're fixing is not sucking in all the other chemicals as well.

In my opinion, patches and gum are just another way to keep getting your money.

My mother was an avid smoker. She thought the patches were a load of bull too. What eventually stopped her smoking were simply two books written by this guy who used to smoke. She never got a single craving. She ended up stopping for many years.

You poor thing, you sound like you are beginning to panic already! Don't worry you have made one of the most positive decisions you will ever make.

I smoked too for about 6 years. You might say that is not a long time, but younger smokers find it harder to quit the addiction. I thought i enjoyed smoking only because I didn't have a smokers cough.

If you don't think you can do it, don't do it. Don't torture yourself.

I quit and I found it really enjoyable. I simply read Allen Carr's book and even half week though, i was getting excited about stomping out my fags.

Please read this book. Its like a miracle - I never thought I could quit so easily.

5 weeks in and I feel a lot fitter and I have lost a stone in weight. I'm more active now and i guess that has helped bring my weight down. Admittely I do eat more now but that is balanced out by my increased energy.

I used the lozenges. I am actually still using one a day. It helped me to have something in my mouth. Now I chew gum all the time, I also started crunching ice. I have not smoked in 8 weeks and I feel so healthy. I have been eating more, but I haven't gained any weight. Usually the weight gain from stopping smoking is not enough to notice, and the health benefits are sooooo worth it.

I often find it useful to suggest an immediate form of NRT, in addition to the patch. If you don't like gum (thinking also here of the NRT gum), you could try the insuflator, which is a little like sucking on an artificial cigarette. It is also available for your pharmacist, or on prescription in Scotland. (Not sure about England), If you use it as well as the patch you may need to cut the patch dose down.

The very best of luck, remember the old saying 'Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life!'

I have tried the patches also...but eventually gave back in to the smoking. I just went to my Dr. today and had him prescribe me Chantix. My grandmother had smoked for all of her life and she has been smoke free for several months now thanks to Chantix. My Dr. said you smoke for the first couple of weeks while taking the meds...then the nicotine eventually does nothing for you and it is much easier to give them up because you actually get nothing out of smoking. Maybe try the Chantix if all else fails...Good luck and Good for you :)

First of all I used nicoderm cq and it worked amazingly! I was the worse smoker ever! And I substituted with bottled water no sweets. and my cravings were very few with nicoderm cq. I removed all ashtrays and matches and lighters from my house and of course cigarettes. and kept water bottles near by. eat celery
