chinchillas are good pets
they live 20+ years, dont smell very much, dont go potty as much as most rodent type pets, and are generally amiable
the drawbacks is that they need to be kept cool, extended hours above 80 can cause death, they need alot of chewing release and they bath themselves in dust so if you have asthma i would rethink one
good luck

Chinchillas can make wonderful pets, but keep in mind they are a long commitment at 20+ years. What happens to this pet when you move out of your parents house? You have to have a plan for them.
Chinchillas need a big cage with many floors (you can get cages specally made for them at most pet stores) so it will take up a lot mroe room then most small pets.
Chinchillas are nocturnal so expect it to sleep during the day.
They do have a tendency to bite more then other animals, so make sure you get a baby and handle it every day a few times a day so that it gets used to it.
They need sand baths about once a week, so make sure you provide them with a fish bowl half full of soft sand (from the pet store) once a week.
If you are not sure if this is the right pet, other small pets that aren't as common you might consider are degus and hedgehogs.

Chinchilla's are wonderful pets. Just make sure this is an animal you really want as they can live for 10 - 15 years. Also do your research about them. They are not always the cuddly type. They prefer to jump and play. A suggestion is to find a breeder close to you that can let you come in and see what they are all about as a pet, they also can help you pick one that fits you. Also make sure you can find a vet that cares for exotic pets before you get any pocket pet.
Check here for more information and locating a breeder.

They are the best pets. I have one and they are lovebale and so soft. They're hard to hold at first but if you get one from a breeder its much easier. I bought mine from a petstore and it was much harder to tame him. They are low mantanince.
All you have to do is feed him daily and give him fresh water and change his cage once a week. You also need to give them attention and exercise. Make sure you get a Large cage.

my friend had one, and chinchillas are very fragile, and need dust bathes, and a big cage. if you do as much research as possible BEFORE buying, and have a vet that treats small animals, and you still want them, then best of luck with your new chinchillas!

well my friend has one and she loves it so much. i think its the cutest thing ever. their really hard to take care of though. they run really fast and their nails get long and hard so they can poke/cut you. if your willing to spare about 350 dollars on one, then about 200 more on suplies. then go for it. haha.

Chinchillas make good coats... I don't know about pets... God only created them so that we could make nice things out of their fur.
