I used to think I was being 'informed' now I am sick to death of all the hype and half of it is only stuff they want to scare us with or make us feel a certain way, it can be manipulative. And... celebrities seem to be making the headlines. Anyone else using that hour for something positive instead?

I stopped watching the local news a long time ago. I'd rather spend about 1/2 hour a day reading the news wire feeds directly online and skip the scare-fest where they do nothing but whip people into a frenzy about this or that horrible thing. I'm in NYC, so all we get is a steady stream of who got shot where, what gang violence is where, and how many unarmed innocent drug dealers got shot by the police. Blech is right. An hour of relaxing music and a good book are much more elightening.

I have the news on in the morning while I get ready for work and that is it. Maybe in the evening I will glance at it if there was something that I heard about during the day that I want to check up on. Other than that, I try to only look up issues that I want info on, on-line. The regular news has gone way down hill.

Yeah, I'm with you... I haven't watched the news regularly in years. Most of it either doesn't apply to me at all, or is stuff that I can do nothing about. Plus it's so sensationalized it makes me sick.

I figure if something important happens, someone will tell me about it.

I can't say I spend the time constructively... mostly I'll spend that time surfing the net or playing video games, maybe I'll spend it working out if I'm in that mood, but regardless, it's hard to spend my time doing anything LESS constructive than watching most of these news programs.

i totally agree with you! i turn on the news and i either see a bunch of murders or anna nichole smith. the only reason i watch anymore is for the weather, which most of the time is wrong anyways...

instead of watching the news, try going outside to do something, being cooped up all day inside makes you go braindead.

Yes. Unfortunately the birds are down south right now, but they will return!!

Just silence is something positive.
