Ok, my mom will only allow me to get a laptop that is at most 500 dollars. I want a laptop that has enough of the basic requirements for basic gaming (like for mmorpg games) obviously im not an extreme pc gamer. i dont need a freaking alienware laptop or anything. just something for everyday gaming. i want 80 gb or more, a decent processor speed, 1gb of ram or more (maybe even 512 megs), windows vista home basic or windows xp premium, 15 inch display or more, and whatever else is good for 3d gaming.

You should be able to get a reasonable computer for that price. I just looked at the Dell website and the lowest model for home use is $599(Inspiron 1501), without going to a refurbished model. HP offers a laptop with those specifications for around $479 (Presario V6000T ) on its entry level. I couldn't find anything less than $999 from Gateway. If you are a current college student, likely you can get some discount on specific models. And as suggested from another individual, gamers don't really use laptops they'd stick to something with more balls like a console or desktop. For the time being, you can buy a laptop or put the money in CD at the bank and draw interest for the time being.

If you are a gamer, you will get more bang for your buck purchasing a Home computer than a laptop. For the mostpart, a laptop is made for running office applications, and watching movies, so I doubt the graphics card, processor speed and ram requirement will even be close for a gamer.
The requirements for vista, reguardless of what the box says, are at least 1 gig of ram, 256mb onboard ram Video card and at least 2 ghz of processor...and at that, it will likely run slower than you want, and upgrades are expensive....
When it comes to gameing...I prefer an x box or playstation, cause the games run without conflicts..and the system requirements for computer games change way to fast.
The one above looks ok, but be prepared to upgrade
Good luck
