A hamster or a gerbil. you could get a pair of gerbils as they are sociable, and keep them in your room. As it sounds like your mum is not keen on pets which are quite a bit of work, (and fair enough, as she may end up having to look after your pet) then you should ask for something which is easy to care for and cheap to maintain. I know that it may seem a bit unfair, but as you get older then your mum will see that you are responsible and allow you to have bigger pets, in the knowlege that you will take responsibility for them, as long as you show her now that you can. :)

I would suggest gerbils. The best would be to get two males that have always been together. You can play with them and they will even sit on your shoulder. Just buy premade gerbil food and it will last you a while. Mix some fruits in once in a while. You can just get a big aquarium to keep them in. Just a normal animal water bottle will do. Put in a paper towel roll(minus the toilet paper) once in a while for them to chew on. Give them some room to run and a shelter to hide and sleep in and they'll love you forever!

How about a Hamster? It stays in a cage and is easy to take care of... Even though you are afraid of those animals I think it would be a good experience for you to get one. The best way to stop being afraid is to face your fears head on.

That's tricky...how about hermit crabs, or Degu? Degu is a well, you'll have to see it your self... http://www.degus.org/english/pred_.htm I wonder why your mom won't let you clean your pets cage? That's kinda weird....I don't know if there's much hope for you getting a pet to be honest... Try to find someone that has a pet you like and try to get your family to see that it's cool, safe, and clean enough to have in the house. Works for me!!

sounds like a gerbil would be perfect! low upkeep, not smelly, and fun to play with. don't think hamster though, bcuz hamsters have long had the popularity that rightly belongs to gerbils :(

fish.
maybe she doesn't want to get you a pet because you are irresponsible and she has to end up paying for it and taking care of it and nagging at you to take care of it when you're too busy on the computer or watching sponge bob.
