opera is actually very good and does not use as much resources as mozzilla, definately alot better and safer than ie7, on a par with mozzilla for security, i am going back to it as it is quicker than firefox and has some nice features.

Opera
Opera has everything you need in a browser and more. There's loads of good reasons to choose Opera and I think for most people the following counts:
- Security
- Pop-up blocker
- Super fast browsing and starting application.
- Light application - doesn't eat your memory and is great for older computers.
- Multiple tabs - can handle 100s of open tabs
- Can save all tabs for next time you open browser. Let's say you went to a news site, closed Opera, opened it the next day, it would keep the old version of the page for you. Handy if you accidentally closed the browser, your computer crashed or wanted to keep the site conent for later.
- Mouse gestures is so addictive! Use your mouse to go back, forward, open new tab etc. This is my favourite built in feature.
Cons:
- Some sites block Opera.
- Some site appear strange in Opera.
Lazy developers build sites that only work in IE or can't be bothered testing them for alternative browser. This fortunately happens less and less, but I tend to avoid these, even though I could open them in IE.
Internet Explorer
IE is built in as part of the OS which means fast boot up time, but it does not honour the W3C web standards. IE7 looks nice, but it's only catching up with Opera and Firefox. IE is also notorious for being targeted by maliscious code writers and has a track record for being unsecure.
Opera installs as an additional browser and will not affect your operating system in any way. If you choose to uninstall it, there will be no traces of it after you delete the folder under program files. The other users of your laptop can still use IE, but off course it's better if they use the more secure Opera.
I use IE, Firefox and Opera, but Opera is my clear favourite and default browser at both work and home.
Good luck and happy browsing!

You should definitely switch away from IE, although I'd recommend Firefox over Opera. You may have as many browsers installed as you like, the other users may still use IE if they wish (although I suggest you try and convert them to Firefox as well, so they aren't compromising the computer's security.)
IE Pros: Slightly faster start time (because it pre-loads itself at boot) than Firefox or Opera; full-page zoom (text and images, instead of just text)
IE Cons: Insecure; web developers hate it because it's holding them back from using newer (circa 1999!) technologies (such as XHTML); closed source; buggy (crashes alot)
Opera Pros: May load slightly faster than Firefox on some computers
Opera Cons: Slower than Firefox, especially for JavaScript-intensive sites, like Gmail; complicated interface/feature bloat; less likely to be supported by some websites than Firefox; closed source
Firefox Pros: Easy to use; highly extensible (customizable); very fast; inline spellchecking; most standards-compliant browser; phishing protection; open source
Firefox Cons: May take slightly longer to load than IE or Opera if you have a lot of Extensions (plug-ins) installed
Opera is much better than IE, but Firefox is by far the best.

First of all you just can't simply remove IE, since it's directly connected to the operating system kernel... You can however use them both independently, or any other web browser you prefer..
Opera browser is fast, it doesn't require many resources to run and it's very safe. It respects most web standard, certainly more then IE does, although you won't be able to run ActiveX with it..
Opera will certainly be a new experience and you'll just have to try it... You don't have to force others to use it... You can install it only n your account for example...

Firstly the other users will still be able to use Internet Explorer whenever they wish..all it will require is to click on the Internet Explorer icon to bring it up.
I have used both Opera & Mozilla Firefox..Opera is good but in my opinion Firefox is better..particularly if you d/l & install the plug in called "faster firefox"..it makes the browser fly..so much faster than IE.
It is securer than IE & doesn't suffer from those annoying qwerks which sometimes happen in Internet Explorer..like red crosses where images should be for example.

I use it regularly to the exclusion of IE 7. Other users can use whatever they want to use. It will take a bit of getting used to but you'll find it faster and you may, if you want, integrate your email with it so that browsing and email are all in the same window.

You can use both. don't forget Firefox. :)
You'll have occasional problems with a limited number of financial sites that require IE. But that's becoming less and less of an issue. (it's not like you can uninstall IE anyway)

You dont have to change one for the other. You can have both and use whichever you feel like using. I have IE7, Mozilla Firefox and Opera on my computer and use them as I please.
