I from the midwest, a college graduate (bachelor's), Im 26, and I have a few years of experience in Human Resources. I've visited Cali (Los Angeles) a few times and I absolutely love it and plan to move there. But it's SO expensive, espeically in terms of housing. And it doesn't seem like the jobs pay more to compensate for the high cost of living.

I am single and I dont have any children. I'm willing to sacrafice, even if I have to live in a studio apartment (as long as it's in a decent neighborhood--which will still probably cost me about $900 p/m) for a few years. But part of me is afraid. Should I go for it? Any success stories? Anyone live out there? How are you making it?

If you have a dream, and have the determination, guts and stamina to chase it then I say, YOU WILL MAKE IT.

Set a date to move, then work as much as you can to save as much money as humanly possible to take with you.

People move interstate all the time. Go for it! If you fail, at least you know you have tried. Knowing this is better than wondering what if for the rest of your life.......

Anyone can make it and strive if they are resourceful and have the drive. I'm not sure what industry you're interested in, but you'll want to look in the right places for job openings. You can probably start pursuing now. Try monster.com, hotjobs.com, and also craigslist.org. craigslist is a little more personal and local. Choose the L.A. area. Be prepared for the culture shock too. People might seem more rude, the driving and road rage is crazy and fast, and the traffic on the 405 is a parking lot at time.

BTW, no one in California calls it Cali.

moved to LA many years ago with your same fears. Believe me, you can make it. there are plenty of decent neighborhoods and you may not even need to pay that much per month. you can find cheap food at Trader Joe's and meet someone to share an apt with down the road to save money. you will love the perfect weather, all the job opportunities, the lifestyle. lots of superficial people, though, so don't get hung up on your looks so much like so many do.
you can do it.
pack up a car and head down.
enjoy!
