I went to a year round high school, and I have to tell you that it wasn't as bad as most people make it out to be. We still had a summer break, just wasn't as long as most. We had, on average, about 6 breaks a year, and they were between 2-3 weeks.
It worked for us. And the school had a much higher than average graduating GPA, and a higher than average percentage of students going on to college.

Cons? The only one I could think of was if you had friends in other schools it stunk trying to get together. But I had a pretty good social network in my own school.

Hope that was helpful!
:-)

The biggest con of year round school is that kids loose interest when they don't have a break and don't learn any more than they would have as things stand now. It's important for children to play too, for their development, and they do this during the of periods of school more that during the on periods.

There was a school in my town that tried the year-round thing several years ago and it didn't work out.

Parents found that it was difficult to get child care because "year-round" typically means that there are still breaks, they just occur at weird intervals.

Parents found it difficult to schedule vacations because their kids were in school more of the time.

It was difficult to enroll one's child in summer programs like camp or other things like that because they were in school.

Kids got really burned out.

This is not from first hand experience, just from things I heard when that school was still operating year-round. It has gone back to the usual public school schedule now.

I know that Italy has school every other year. But that's all I know. Lucky ducks.

There is so much information on this topic available: why can't you just do your own homework?
