earlybirdy, I ask this question because we often hear conservatives complain that "Muslims never condemn Muslim terrorists", and I wanted to know how many people knew the facts of the matter.

Actually, over 700,000 people signed the petition. The link may be down because the petition may be closed.

They'll retreat to the position that the Koran is satanic or some silly nonsense. Thanks for the link. Another silly right wing talking point bites the cold hard facts.

Have they gone on to the streets? Held conferences or publicly criticized the Muslims who did the attacks? No, they are content with signing an online petition where they disagree with the bombings. Anybody could've done that. Check out what Hooper of CAIR said about Islam domination.

"I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future...But I'm not going to do anything violent to promote that. I'm going to do it through education." - Ibrahim Hooper CAIR Spokesman.

"Those who stay in America should be open to society without melting, keeping Mosques open so anyone can come and learn about Islam. If you choose to live here, you have a responsibility to deliver the message of Islam ... Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth." - Omar Ahmad Co-founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations

This is from a website created by ex-Muslims who do criticize terrorism. Also, I'm not a conservative.

Aaaaand?

Contrary to what you may think, all Muslims aren't bad. Is this news?

The problem isn't the vast majority of Muslims, it's the estimated 7-12 % extremists that we're worried about.

Thanks.

EDIT: Ahhhh... thanks. Most normal conservatives already knew that from Irshad Manji, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and others. The problem comes from the fact that many Muslims say, "I oppose terrorism, BUT... (understand how it can be used; understand the pressures; etc)" Also, many heads of the middle eastern Islamic institutions haven't said much on the matter. Conservatives are well aware that not all Muslims are evil, but know that *some* may be.

Can't wait for the Muslim Reformation.

Now if we could get CAIR to stop supporting IAP, HLF, GRF, Hamas, and others hostile to the United States. Or even if they stopped hiring terrorists like senior CAIR employee Randall Royer who was sentenced to 20 years in Virginia and admitted to aiding and abetting 3 terrorists in training in Pakistan. Or CAIRs Director of Community Relations Bassem Khafagi who was arrested for his ties to a terrorist group and eventually deported to Egypt. The list goes on and on.

Maybe we shouldn't put much faith in their "online" petition that can be signed by anyone with access to the internet. I bet at least 1/2 of those that signed are liberal non-muslims. Heck, I even e-signed it.

Thank you for providing this link. You're right that many people on these boards seem to think that ALL Muslims are in favor of terrorism, and that's just not true.

I think that's great. And I like the way it's worded.

"The “Not in the Name of Islam” petition states: “We, the undersigned Muslims, wish to state clearly that those who commit acts of terror, murder and cruelty in the name of Islam are not only destroying innocent lives, but are also betraying the values of the faith they claim to represent. No injustice done to Muslims can ever justify the massacre of innocent people, and no act of terror will ever serve the cause of Islam. We repudiate and dissociate ourselves from any Muslim group or individual who commits such brutal and un-Islamic acts. We refuse to allow our faith to be held hostage by the criminal actions of a tiny minority acting outside the teachings of both the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him."

It's the first of it's kind that I've heard of. I went to your link and clicked "click here to sign the petition", and it takes you to a blank page.
