it's an e-machine 325 with 512mb ram and 80gb hd. about 3 1/2 yrs. old. probably not worth fixing ? only paid $449.00 after instant rebate @ best buy. wonder what happened to it ? doesn't turn on at all now. haven't looked inside yet. shouldn't a fuse have blown before it started smoking ? it was plugged into a surge protector, monitor still works.

9 chances out of 10 you have a blown power supply. They are relatively inexpensive. If your machine is still under warranty, I'd probably return it.

Smoke coming out of the case probably means your power supply blew. It's a cheap fix, usually between $30 and $50, give it a shot.

Power supply most likely burned up. Simple fix - just unplug everything pull a few screws bolt in another one. I suggest Back to to Best Buy if it has a warranty. If not, buy another with a minimum of 450 watts -550 watts would be better.

most likely you blew your power supply... if you look in the back its near the top and its the fan part... on the inside its the large box with all the wires coming out of it... you can take that out and have it tested at your local best buy or you can take your whole computer to them...

a new power supply +labor will cost you between 100-175

the power supply blew,a common problem on the emachines, you can try a new power supply but in my experience it usually takes out the mother board as well, out of around 15 i have had brought to me i have had one that survived with just a power supply replacement.try a replacement power supply and if it has killed the mobo then go for a new mother board, you wont have wasted money on the power supply as you will need one anyway,at 3,1/2 years old it has done well i have had several that were just out of warranty.good luck.

power supply blew, good luck finding one on the cheap for this machine as this company is extremely proprietary, in other words it's hard to find part except through them.
by the way friends don't let friends buy e-machines, they are the disposable lighters of the computer industry.

The power supply probably went.

Salvage the hard drive and get a new computer. Or you could get a new power supply.

You have blown out an electrical component. Possibly your motherboard. You need to take it apart to find the problem.

I take it you don't know much about computers. So I recommend taking it to a PC Repair center.

Your first mistake was buying an e-machine.

Your second mistake was letting the smoke out.

First thing I learned about computers was that once you let the smoke out they don't work anymore. (sorry, old joke... ;-) )
