I'm creating an altered book for my sister's 40th birthday and am afraid to start. I'm so afraid I'll mess something up and the whole project will be ruined. Any suggestions?

I have some suggestions. First, this is a very thoughtful gift and regardless of how you think you might mess it up, trust that your sister will not even notice and be thankful that you gave her something so special. Second, if you make mistakes, they often lead to something new that you didn't think of that is actually more interesting. Think of it as an adventure and fun, don't put so much pressure on yourself to make it perfect. If you're a perfectionist and are having a hard time digging into the project, another suggestion is to make a mock up. Get some construction paper or use copy paper and make it into a book so you can layout ideas, cut and paste things, scribble notes, brainstorm. Most of all, just enjoy it, no more worries, have fun.
