My house has a large flat top roof, I would like to raise it in the middle of the family room to add some small windows and make the roof feel larger. Is this easy and can I do it myself? There are no load bearing beams in the way and the majority of the roof is held up by large steel beams that do not intersect the area I wish to raise.

I was hoping I could just build another flat top roof about 2' above the existing roof. Anyone try this?

I would never recommend anyone using a flat roof. being in the remodeling business I don't know how many flat roofs that i have been on the all leak at sometime and all you can do is patch them. over and over again. I would recommend hiring a professional to build a rafter system on top of your flat roof then shingle it
