The young Black people seem to have more a " I don't give a damn attitude", now, seems more prevalent than 10 years ago.
The older folk, about the same, some are less tolerant of the behavior of our young folk.

In 1997, I was living in the south and noticed that the degree of racism had not changed; however there seemed to be a level of understanding about it from both parties. Racism within my own group was prevalent (e.g., lighter skinned blacks vs. darker skinned blacks) and unquestionable; however, I am sure that in 2007 this is something that will soon disappear.
On the whole, as Erica said, you see more positive role models mainstreaming past the sports arena and active in political roles like Condoleeza Rice and Barak Obamma; Oprah Winfrey as a successful talk show host and admired by man; more Oscar nominees, etc.
One guy from the south mentioned a lot of negative circumstances happening in black communities, though the same are in many other non-black societies. He doesn't want to give credit to the fact that many more are becoming home buyers, more are in the technological field and making top dollar incomes, more are seen on television shows that detail their expertise in art, architecture, etc.
Our black society has improved and though someone said ten years was not enough time to show a difference, he is quite wrong. Just look around you - not everyone of us are baggy pants wearing individuals living on tax dollars from others, waiting on our "baby's daddy" to come home so we can get high.
Opportunity is out there and we are, indeed, opening the doors.

Well in '97 I was 10 years old, one thing I noticed back then was not many Blacks were nominated for major awards. Today, Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy are all nominated for Oscars. Another thing I have noticed is , their are more Blacks in politics. Barack Obama is running for president; he has a good chance of becoming the first Black president.

I think black people need to get back to basic and start treating each other with respect. I live in a state where blacks don't speak to each to say Hi. We need to end the slave mentality and black racism. Some us are conforming to white society so much. We are forgetting who we are as a people. We need to support each other and stop trying to bring each other down. We also need to support black businesses. There are too many brothers and sisters hating themselves and hating the black race.

Black society of 2007 does not exist, so as it hadn't in 1997.
So as the white society.
We are ONE multicultural society and this is great just because it IS.

Their attitudes are worse, their work ethic is worse, their pants are even more baggy, their drug addiction and crime rates are higher, the amount of black kids without in home fathers has risen from 78% to about 84%. The high school drop out rates are higher. Their music is even more vulgar and even more popular. I know that all black society does not fit with the things I have stated, but I live in an area that is predominantly black and I interact with lots and lots of them.
