If the ratio on an image is 1.5 to 1 (i.e. 150 x 100 pixels), how can I resize and reshape this image where it's proportional like a square (i.e. 200 x 200 pixels) without making it distorted? The backdrop can be white and if there's a way to do this in a basic program like photo editor or MS paint, I'd appreciate your help.

you cant... you would have to make it something like 200 x 150... other wise you are changing the shape of the pixels and you WILL get distortion... if you want a square image... try cropping what you want to have in the picture and make the crop a square.

Open it in MS Paint and then set the size under Image > Attributes. You can then cut the image and paste to position it where you want to.

Note that even if you change the actual image to 200x200, if whatever is displaying it says to display it at say 150x200 the picture will be distorted. If whatever is displaying it (a web page for example) doesn't include specific sizing, it'll be OK.

You can't, it will always have to guess where the extra information is coming from, usually by interpolation methods. You can't magically fill in the missing pixels. Photoshop is good at resizing images, its interpolation methods give a good gradient of colors when resizing.

If you cannot afford Photoshop, I would download something like GIMP that would allow you to make all sorts of changes to your images...

It's a little harder going up in size than going down because you are going from X amount of detail to XX amount of detail and there's always going to be some blurring or distortion because the computer has to make up the missing data.

Add whitespace to the top and bottom to make it square, and then resize it.
