Acer is actually a good brand, I would compare them to HP. Unfortantly there really a superior computer company anymore. Dell used to be really good, until they started buy parts from overseas and started using crappy parts. Your best bet anymore is to find someone that you trust that knows how to build computers, but if you cant do that, then I would say Dell is the "better" company out there.

It's all the same parts and OS on every PC. Dell, Gateway, Acer, pretty much all the same. They each offer different specific hardware and prices, I think Dell does better quality testing of machines and offers better packages, but in general they're all as good as any other (except eMachines).

Well, most computers are pretty similar until you actually get onto quality testing; maybe you should google Acer consumer reviews to see what other people think.

A lot of my friends are Computer Scientists (I am too) and a few of them complain about Acer's laptops. Can't remember any specific complaints though.
