Addiction is strange when it comes to video games as it usually depends on how much someone plays. Some people might consider me and addict with the amount of games and systems i have and how much/little i play. I propably play 2-3 hours a day, after work. but it doesnt effect my family, my health or my social skills. Others it does, even with a 2-3 hour a day habit.

Well lets first define what an addiction is: * being abnormally tolerant to and dependent on something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming (especially alcohol or narcotic drugs) * an abnormally strong craving Basically an addiction is anything that you have a strong craving for and cannot stop willfully. As it relates to your question, video games can be quite addicting. I think the article you have provided points to this. What has happened is many young children and teens have become engrossed in a false environment. Don't get me wrong, I think video games provide a source of entertainment that can be pleasurable. But the issue becomes when playing video games is all you do. It takes away from life. Video games can be addicting because it presents a world that is realistic. So much so that many lose precious time in life. How is it addicting? Well for one, there is a dialogue that is created by characters along with the great graphics. Also there is the issue of the internet. Many play online games allowing them to interact with others. They do so and they become trapped in it, and they can't break free from it so easily. They think its real when in essence its just a form of entertainment that takes up so much time. So yes, I believe it is a problem for today's youth.

Yeah. Anyone can get addicted to anything. Just because some people have game addictions, that doesn't mean that video games are bad. Just like food, moderation and the occasional splurge is perfectly suitable and within the boundaries of a healthy lifestyle. Once you start abandoning your responsibilities and dignity to video games, then you have a problem.
