First, I don't see how some people can compare the Nazi flag to the Confederate Battle Flag. You would have to be an idiot to make that connection. Hitler had millions of innocent jews killed and the Nazi flag represented white power. The Confederate flag represents states rights and not slavery. The war wasn't really about slavery anyway and Lincoln was actually pretty racist and said that he wanted to send blacks back to Africa (hence the creation of Liberia). He used the emancipation proclamation as a last minute attempt to demoralize the Confederates. The confederate flag has been used by racists as a symbol of racism, when actually its just a symbol of states rights. My family has been in South Carolina since the founding of Charleston in 1670, but I really don't care if the flag flies at the state house or not. However, it should be noted that it is a symbol of our heritage and not hate. Hillary or any other non-South Carolinian has no right to even discuss what South Carolina does about the flag. She just wants to get the black vote away from Obama.

Hillary is not the only Democrat saying this.
"Other Democratic hopefuls, including Sens. Joe Biden and Chris Dodd, have said the flag should come down. The banner, which once flew over the Statehouse dome and now flies nearby, is the subject of an ongoing NAACP boycott."
Therefore you cannot single her out alone. As to why she did not say anything as First Lady, clearly it is to win black votes in the State, she never needed those votes before - an unfortunate aspect of politics (raising convenient issues to get votes).
However, the article clearly points out that a part of the local population has a problem with this flag and that needs to be addressed in an adult manner - with dialog. Educate people about the flag and why it should be there and allow others to express their reasons for wanting it down (it does represent negative things to a lot of people).
Only more proof for me as an International on-looker that the US has serious race issues
p.s. The Nazi flag has lots of history in Germany but it's not flying anywhere.

Up to now I have not agreed with anything said by Hillary Clinton, however, this is a first. The Civil War is over and the South has to recognize it. They lost!!!! No more Rebel flag flying in the USA. It is disgusting.

that is none of Hillary's business enterprise. that's an emblem of background, and that's a proud background. We South Carolinians could be pleased with our background. after all, maximum of our households have been right here for over 3 hundred years. that is greater desirable than maximum yankees can say, different than the final final little bit of old New Englanders. i do no longer know why Dee F thinks that Jews are at the back of it, feels like somebody is somewhat anti-semetic. There are greater old Jewish households in Charleston than maximum different cities in the south and their ancestors have been confederates. i do no longer think of all people is at the back of it different than Hillary, only attempting to get an argument to stand on.

I don't know or care about South Carolina's flag. When you say stars and bars do you mean a rebel flag? That is like flying a swastika in a jewish neighborhood only in South Carolina they all like the hatred symbol of the rebel flag. All at the same time flaunt the premise they are in the bible belt. I hate southern people that think this way.

The Confederate Battle flag (commonly misaddressed as the Stars and Bars) is representation of an important part of not only the South's history, but of the history of the United States as a whole. It is associated with bigotry because people are erroneously taught in public schools that the war was only about slavery. It is a common misconception that the people in the North didn't own slaves, and that only the people from the South did.
The Confederate flag should be honored and remembered as a symbol of States' Rights. But seeing as Hillary Clinton (Socialist) doesn't want individual states to have rights, it is only appropriate for her agenda for the flag to be removed.

Yes and no
I can sympathize with the minorities who feel threatened by a Confederate-era symbol, I mean they did some pretty crazy stuff under that flag
But also that is a huge part of Southern identity, so it should be incorporated into the symbol of the state
PC is overrated, but there are still people that think because the flag of S.C. is one of Confederate design they have the right to practice that lifestyle

It's none of her business. She wants the black vote. She is such a loser. She needs to work on illegal immigration and not a flag. I am from south carolina and people who lost alot of family members in the civil war would be ticked. It is part of our history. She needs to deal with important issues.
That flag has been a symol of the south for a long time before people called it a symbol of racism.

You have every right to display the Confederate Flag, symbol of treason and slavery, if you want to. Thanks to the Army of the Republic, we are a free country.
And, by the way, if you can fly the flag of another country, so can a Mexican fly a flag of Mexico and an Italian to fly the flag of Italy.

The stars and bars is a flag associated with bigotry. She is opposed to bigotry and so it makes sense. She wishes to represent 50 states and South Carolina is one of them. Majority rules.
