If only platys are in the tank, it isn't necessary to put them in a breeding net. Platies don't eat their young, as most other live bearers do. The fry will do fine in the same tank.

When a female live-bearer gets near her date she should not be moved. The move is too stressful. If you are concerned about saving the fry,go to a pet store and get a couple of bunches of leafy plants and put them in the tank. That should assure the survival of most if not all of the fry. Look closely at the gravid spot,if you can see the tiny eyes then it's really too late to move the female.-------PeeTee

There is a dark spot around her vent if it darkened that means she is pregnant and will give birth in 24 hours or so. Keep watch if you want the babies. Make sure you take them out and put them in a breeding net or another tank. The adult fish can and will eat them.

Is your fish bigger than the different, or fatter? If one fish seems to be thinner jointly as the different one's abdomen is particularly protruding, quite alongside the climate, then your fish is the two an risky male or a pregnant lady. notwithstanding, women folk are bigger than adult males at the start. Male's anal fin are referred to as gonopodium's and that they are greater long and pointy than women folk. women folk' anal fins are around and fanned out. look in direction of the decrease back of your platy's abdomen, type of the place you will possibly think of your fish might have "hips." Is there a around, darkish dot there? women folk might have that and that's referred to as a "gravid spot." commonly, whilst the ladies folk at the instant are not pregnant you will possibly have the skill to work out one and tell that it is in basic terms waste build up because it fades slightly each and daily, yet whilst pregnant, the gravid spot is the spot of their abdomen the place the fry is saved. each now and then you will discover their eyes! Ask yet another question as quickly as you're specific that a minimum of one platy is pregnant.

yeah, I would say she is pregnant. Live-bearers are so much fun to watch! If you want to keep any babies you are going to keep the fry away from the mom, sadly she will eat them :(
edit: I have had "mommy" platies eat their fry right after they birth them. (those saying that platies won't each their young.....are flat out wrong)
