I personally use Avast antivirus which is free and updates everytime a virus is found (you can do this manually or set it for automatic), as for a firewall I use Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall which again is free, you get the first 30 days full program and then the free version which is plenty good enough. I used to have Norton Antivirus and Firewall but wouldn't touch it now with a barge pole as it is HUGE, and will slow your computer down quite a bit. It is also a bugger to uninstall properly. A friend of mine actually had a program to do this with, and if you saw the amount of files that were loaded in the system you would be totally amazed.

Since you have broadband and are always connected, you will need a firewall, antivirus software, and a couple of anti-spyware programs. I personally use Norton Internet Security. It does most of the stuff behind the scenes without much input. As far as an anti-spyware program, use Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware, or if you want to buy something, Spyware Doctor.

beware... you opened an opinion poll. i have used AVG free for years without complications. i have continually used added application like Malwarebytes, Ccleaner, and Superantispware. no one product will take care of you from each and everything.

It sounds to me as though you have downloaded the trial version instead of the free version.
