My grama waxes her new hardwood floors, but they are no-wax floors. What reprecusions, if any will there be? Can waxing it scratch the finish, b/c her floors have all these "scuff-like" scratches--not in the wood, just in the finish...they are new floors, and we always take our shoes off, so I don't know what could be causing the scratches

Well Generally wax will build up on the floor, and though it won't hurt it, it'll eventually dull the finish. The cleansers that remove the wax buildup can affect the no wax finish too, so it can be a problem later on, but it depends on how much she cleans. the scuffs could be because of the cleaning too. you'd have to test that a little.

Your "scratches" are in the finish not the floor, and are most likely from her using a sponge mop that maybe has some dirt/sand in it or maybe a string mop and its jaw is scratching the floor as she is trying to scrub a stain out. give a swifer a shot at the floor. Once you start waxing a wood floor it should continue to be waxed.

Please, tell gramma she doesn't need to wax hardwood floors! They are treated with polyurethane and don't take wax. If the floors got really bad, you would sand them down and re-seal them...but not with wax. All she has to do to them is use a product made for hardwood floors, and never any water. Water is wood's worst enemy. Good luck!

I would think maybe she is using a harsh cleaner. I know they say you should not wax a no-wax floor, because once you do it, you always have to.

I don,t know what wold happen ,but i would never start it.Leave it alone as long as it is shinny. The wax will just build up and you will have to remove it.
