Unfortunately the basic tenets of Islam are that Allah and the Q'uaran are the "only" law and all others are false. That doesn't leave too much room for the Constitution.

I would if they held the right position on the issues, had some kind of political record, and good credentials. A candidate's faith does not matter to me.

I think it is possible for a Muslim to be elected President, but not in the near future. By the end of this century...I think it is possible. Of course, even then it would have to be a mainstream, moderate Muslim, and they would have to be assimilated in all other cultural respects.

A faithful Muslim who dressed and spoke like most other Americans, and whose family resembled most other families, would do fine. A devout Muslim who wore North African or Arabic attire, who spoke frequently in religious terms, would not do very well.

American government may not have a particular religious basis, but our culture has unambiguously Christian roots. Those roots run very deep. I think American voters could eventually overlook the divide between Islamic theology and Christian theology, but only if the contrast wasn't clearly in front of their face.

I wouldn't vote for anyone who put there religion before the country. No matter what religion. If they seem like they're better than the rest of the canidates then sure. But i doubt a party would ever put up a muslim canidate [no offense].

Maybe someday, but the world today has clearly drawn lines. When even the "peaceful" Muslims fail to speak out against their brothers, when even "moderate" mosques in the USA are starting to endorce the rabble rhetoric, and when terrorists see no difference between a moderate and an infidel, it is not the right time to have a Muslim in office.

Depends

If the Muslim is otherwise the most qualified of the candidates offered for election I would vote for him/her. One's religion should be only one of many, many things to consider and should be one of the lesser things when considering a presidential candidate.

It depends on the Muslim. But if s/he's otherwise the best candidate? Then certainly I would. A person's religion is secondary to his or her ability to lead.

yes! i don't care what religion someone is! people are so paranoid and judgmental in this country (the U.S.A.)!! it's so ridiculous, I'm sorry but I've had more problems with Christians than I've had with Muslims! people just aren't informed enough in this country....spend 5 minutes talking to someone of the Muslim faith and you'd realize that they are some of the most peaceful and respectful people on the planet!

you can't give an entire religion a bad name because of a few extremists...there are people just like that that are christian...i really wish people would stop being so close minded about subjects like this; they just sound ignorant.

sorry, i just had to get that off my chest.

Never, this country was founded on Judeo- Christian beliefs. Electing anyone into a govenment office who differs from these beliefs would be like slapping our forefathers in the face.

Peaceful? Respectful? Who is this person trying to ****? Don't muslims believe that anyone who is not muslim is an infidel? Yes! and that all infidels must either convert or be killed? yes! I don't see anything peaceful or respectful about that, at all!
