Honestly, you'd be better off letting it go and chalking it up to a lesson in life about loaning people money. You could hire an attorney and go to small claims court, but that will likely cost you more money than it's worth. I have a friend in the same situation but it's a great deal of money...like $5000 I think and he got an attorney and they sued and won, but he hasn't seen any of the money. The person he sued doesn't have the money and there's not really a lot more that they can do without it costing even more money to go forward with the legal options like garnishing, etc. He's basically just having to consider it a loss.

well first of all is it or was it documented? on paper if not its a little harder to get what is owed u can take him to small claims court, its kinda hard but make sure u take everything that u can to prove ur case. if he was on the lease then thats what u need to take if u have receipts from whatever it is that he or u bought for him b/c it is a legal transaction. but there are all kindof things u can use to get ur money but court is ur best bet if u really want what is owed to u and if u take him to court chances are he will leave u alone

The easiest way would be to go on a small claims court show. The good thing about that is depending on which one you go on, they pay everyone's way there, pay for everyone's hotel, pay you & your sue-ee a small amount ($100) to be on the show and pay your witness' an even smaller amount ($5). But its a free vacation. short... yes. but free. Oh, my only thing with being on there is your ex-roommate might not learn a lesson because they pay all his fee's for him. Nothing comes out his pocket. But you'll get what your owed.
He/She would also have to be willing to go on the show. But its fun, u get to look cute on camera and get paid for it. Good Luck sweetie.

Take him to court, but know you'll never be friends and may never get the money anyhow. I would still do it for his own good and for your peace of mind. He could delay out court for a year if he felt like it, then he could pay as little as 20USd a month. then again, it could scare him and make him pay. but worst case, he could be paying 20 a month for a long time.

Even if you win a small claims court action, you still have to collect. If he is a deadbeat, the court can't make him not be one.
Confiscate something from him of equal value and use that as leverage.

First of, it replaced into very silly of you to borrow her funds extraordinarily after the reality which you 2 did not get alongside nicely. you will could pass to a civil trial/court docket to settle the debt. She owes you funds, the element it quite is going to be slightly difficult is proving the reality which you lend her the money, by using fact it replaced into verbal and not written everywhere. sturdy luck!
