I'm doing a report and I need lots of opinions on this theory. Here are the basics of what it says:

People everywhere are experiencing pain in their lives because they do not reach their full potential.

Times have changed, and people need to become great not just effective.

To become great you must find your voice and inspire others to find theirs.

So if you can do this, you can heal the pain in your life.

So what is your take on this? The more answers I get the better, so please don't hold back! Thank you!!!

Oh my goodness, I'm very sorry. I forgot to mention. These aren't my ideas. These are from Steven Covey's book The 8th Habit which I am doing a report on.

People feel pain because they hurt badly in an area and need healing. Without the desire for healing they will not strive to reach their full potential

People need to become educated and adaptable to change or connect with someone who is good at it to become effective themselves.

To become great you must find your voice and inspire others to find theirs. Yes so be the best example of greatness yourself and others will follow.

And you've come full circle to the fourth idea. "So if you can do this, you can heal the pain in your life."

That's a good observation and philosophy of life That by taking care of others in their pain in woes you are taking of yourself. But of course in some cases it takes leadership and more than one person to accomplish the task. So you yourself must become the leader which in some cases will require education. And a tenacity to your original plan, in spite of change of circumstances to achieve your goal. In the end everyone one benefits from the healing efforts of others, as well as yourself.

1. True, yet the flip side is that there are obstacles standing in the way of reaching that potential, money, family, what ever the situation might be.
2. Misleading, because I am effective in what I choose to be, and if everyone was great, then what outcome becomes of this? In what respect does this sentence apply to?
3. To become great, for what purpose again? I have my voice, and have inspired others, does this mean I am now great? To whom?
4. Doesn't help me heal the pain, in my life, it gives me satisfaction that I was able to assist someone with their problems.

For the first one, I don't think that's the reason people are experiencing pain but it's part of the reason; people are experiencing pain because they have regrets on how their lives could have turned out if they'd made another choice.
I agree with the second one because people nowadays don't set their sights higher or high enough, I think people are getting used to technology doing things for them and aren't getting out there doing what needs to be done for them as a person.
I also agree with the third one but I think that a person must find their voice, teach others the absolute truth, and inspire others to find their voice and to continue to teach others the absolute truth about anything and everything.
So if you can do this, you can heal the pain in your life.

There is only one purpose for pain. To let you know you have made a poor choice or a good choice if it produces lasting pleasure. When you make a positive or constructive choice the result is pleasure to some degree. When you make a poor or wrong choice you suffer or experience pain to some degree. One might compare pain to the results you receive on a test score, the higher the score the better you feel, the lower the score the greater the discomfort. Sounds too simple but give it a try. You might be surprised. Always look at it from the long term since short term decisions sometimes produce pleasure but long term becomes panful.

Time heals all wounds. Including pain :)

Your theory is respected but not necessarily true. Finding your voice and trying to inspire others to find theirs, could cause more pain in the end instead of healing it.

80% of the American population now-a-days doesn't know the first thing about respect or inspiration.

Soooooo with that said........

Here are my thoughts and here is my theory: Pain is inevitable. Physical, mental, social and emotional pain will always be a part of our lives. There's no use in fighting it because it will always be there. Pain is what makes us better people. It's a part of who we are today.

Everything happens for a reason and if we would just take the time to realize this and spend our days trying to better ourselves, and to find our own voice within, instead of trying to get strangers to find theirs and concentrating on them.......

Well, then i believe that the pain will subside and we'll finally be at peace :)

I like where you're going.
But define potential. I got slapped upside the head for encouraging someone to live up to their potential. And they're right. Just because I believe actualized potential is the way, it ain't necessarily so.
Define great... if 'find your voice' is to find that which fulfills you I'm on board. But don't tell me I have to inspire others. I can be happy with my life or that 'found voice' without validation or admiration of others. Nor do I need to spread the good word.
And although I agree that finding that voice is important to healing a lot of psychic wounds, other things (a balanced life for example) are needed to live 'pain' free.

Hopefully, my thoughts aren't too critical, because the way you express your theory is quite rhythmic and poetic. I agree with your thoughts, just don't think they are complete enough (for me anyway).

Peace

1) This is understated. They have pain because they are sleeping, they are mechanical, and don't step outside.
2) People need to become, that is all. They need to realize themselves, and not just go through the motions
3) We are all great, to say finding your voice implies ego, people just need to open up to the world, and they will connect
4) once you open up to the world, once you get off the merry go round of what we are told, and start looking at ourselves as we really are everything - not just pain, changes.
