Close up scars? Uh-uh. Cupping and bleeding was used to reduce fevers by bleeding the poor soul. It didn't work. In fact, all it did was weaken the patient.

The patient would have a vein opened, usually at the wrist, and would bleed into a bowl. Sometimes they gripped a wand and the blood trickled down the pole. This later became an early symbol of the barber profession since barbers were also doctors in a pinch (dentists, too).

The only cupping and branding I have ever heard of wasn't for scars. It's in the Islamic belief in that the Prophet said there are three healings: A gulp of honey, cupping, and branding (cauterizing). But the branding was prohibited by their religion.

So honestly, I'm not really certain what you're talking about...sorry.
